Buscopan® is an antispasmodic medication which specifically relieves stomach pain with cramps.

Buscopan® acts where the pain develops - in the intestine. Buscopan® works directly on the muscles in the intestine to relieve the cramps and spasms that cause discomfort. With Buscopan®, you can be confident that you are targeting the cause of your discomfort and cramps and that you will thereby solve the problems rather than mask the pain.2

Buscopan® is one of the widely most used and highly trusted medicines for this indication.

Buscopan® acts only where the cramps and pains occur - in the intestine. Many analgesics act by blocking pain signals, thereby relieving the pain. Buscopan® acts only where the pain occurs and treats the spasms that cause the pain.2

This is not recommended. An increase of the recommended dosage in general will not accelerate the effect and may have negative effects. The dosage that is recommended on the pack or on the Consumer Medicine Information leaflet inside the pack, is the dose you should take. A doctor may vary this dose based on the type and severity of your stomach pain.

It is recommended to swallow Buscopan® tablets whole (do not crush) and with plenty of water. (usually a full glass). For more information, please refer to the Consumer Medicine Information leaflet inside the pack. If in doubt, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Buscopan® is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you are suffering from stomach pain with cramps and are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult with your doctor.

Common causes of stomach pain with cramps include:

• Sensitivity to certain foods that trigger stomach pain, such as fatty, spicy or highly seasoned foods, caffeine, alcohol and acidic citrus fruits.

• A hectic, stress-filled lifestyle, skipping meals, eating on the run and the anxieties which can cause nervousness.

• A change from your normal daily routine, for example when travelling, which can unbalance your digestive system.

You should be especially cautious if your ailment lasts longer than 48 hours or if the pain worsens, if you have a fever, if you notice blood in your stools, or if you notice sudden weight loss. You should then consult a doctor and ask their advice.

No. Buscopan® is specially developed to relax the muscles of the digestive tract. Therefore, it acts only where stomach cramps and pains occur.

IBS sufferers can experience stomach cramps as well. However, IBS patients will often experience other symptoms, including: diarrhoea, and/or constipation, and/or flatulence. If you suffer from IBS, you should consult with your doctor before using any treatment.
